Many
industries, from waste management to automotive rely on their
scales to track and process vital information which is crucial to
their operation.
Problem:
Weigh scale load cells are highly susceptible to indirect
lightning strikes.
Solution:
Attached is a drawing of the installation recommendation for
protecting load cells at a truck weigh station.

Installation and Grounding:
1. Install TPS surge suppressor with weather proof
enclosure in line at each load cell.
2. Ground each TPS unit locally.
3. Connect all TPS grounds with a minimum 12 gauge wire and tie to
the scale house ground.
4. Confirm that both sides of the ramp/metal structure are also
grounded to the same grounding system.
As per our
conversation it is best to protect each load cell with a TPS surge
suppressor and bonding all ground points together to maintain the
same ground potential at all points in the system with the AC
ground.
